Surge Suppressors

Surge and noise suppression built to order, including hybrid units, metal-housed units, and the Z Series.

Choosing between these series

The surge rating is the obvious way to choose between these three series, and it is not the only one.

Noise filtering does not follow the same order. The BN and Z Series both filter EMI and RFI at 80 DBS, and the VCN Series filters at 55. So a choice made on the joule figure alone can land on the lower filtering, and equipment troubled by line noise is a different question from equipment exposed to a single large transient.

The Z Series is the one of the three built for a harder supply. It carries a dual pole circuit breaker, giving over-current protection on both sides of the line rather than one, and an oil and water resistant heavy duty cord. The BN and VCN Series carry a suppressor indicator light, a fail safe circuit and a lighted on/off switch, and both are aluminum housed with clip mounting that snaps on and slides off. The BN Series suppresses through a five stage circuit with complete sine wave clamping.

Housing selection is not a reason to choose between them. All three are 2 inches by 1 7/8 inches, and all three are ETL listed to UL 1449 Third Edition.

The BN and Z Series both publish No against fax, modem and coaxial protection. Those two protect the AC line, and a telephone or coaxial run needs its own device.
